Virginia Woolf’s “ORLANDO”

orlandotabletentweb - Version 2

This semester’s black box production is Virginia Woolf’s ORLANDO, adapted by Sarah Ruhl. For those of you who didn’t know, myself included, the novel Orlando is the coming-of-age story of a young man as he discovers himself through trials of love, heartbreak, competition, and depression. The novel affords us a glimpse of Elizabethan era gender roles, gender identity and the problems they entail. The semi-autobiographical nature of the work also gives us a valuable look at Woolf’s life as she juggles the passions of work and love as a 19th century bisexual.

The news release:

In Sarah Ruhl’s whimsical adaptation of the novel ORLANDO, we are invited to take a journey of self-discovery as Orlando lives as a duke, a duchess, a lover, an ambassador, a wife, and a poet. This play lovingly asks us to embrace who we are at any moment, and challenges us to imagine who we may become next.

Where: Janet Kinghorn Bernhard Theater (JKB)
When: March 1 – 6 at 8PM except for Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2PM
Tickets: Reservations are a must! $12 general admission, $8 students and senior citizens
Contact: Skidmore Theater Box Office: 518-580-5439 or boxoffice@skidmore.edu
